NEWS Sun Microsystems has beaten Microsoft to market with the first shipment of its Java Embedded Server. While Microsoft is still a month away from shipment, Sun's NanoServer has been released to run on Solaris, NT, Windows CE and a variety of real time operating systems from Lucent Technologies and QNX. It can also run on any platform that supports Personal Java or a Java Development Kit. Sun claimed it could be deployed on a networking server or embedded device such as mobile phone or PDA. Java Embedded Server consists of two main technologies - the JavaServer engine and a host of Java Services including HTTP and remote administration.
