NEWS Computer Associates (CA) is to offer the Linux version of its Ingres II relational database for free, and has released an open source beta version of the software. The company hopes the move will boost adoption of the final product, especially among educational establishments, which have been keen adopters of Linux. It is also keen to encourage developers and prospective customers to provide feedback, and participate in the development of the software. The open beta can be downloaded free from the CA Web site, at www.cai.com. The final version is scheduled for release in December.
