NEWS Forrester Research has released projections which suggest that ecommerce is on the verge of worldwide acceptance. The research group forecasts that worldwide Internet commerce will reach a value of $3.2 trillion worldwide by 2003 which represents as much as 5 per cent of total worldwide commerce. Forrester's president George Colony is advising businesses to move quickly to establish a foothold in this growing market. He is also urging governments to boost their efforts to nurture sound ecommerce policy. The predictions were made at Forrester's annual forum in Boston, US, where a straw poll was taken to gauge opinion among the participants. Forty six per cent of attendees - who represent global corporations - said their companies will be selling more than $1m in goods and services by 1999 while 23 per cent said this figure will be more like $10m.
