Microsoft bids to sidestep Java order

NEWS Microsoft could be heading for another legal storm with Sun Microsystems over its proposals to comply with last week's Java ruling. Judge Whyte ruled in Sun's favour and issued an injunction forcing Microsoft to start shipping 100 per cent pure Java compliant components in Internet Explorer and Windows 98. The software giant was given 90 days to comply. However, in a press statement released late on Friday night, Microsoft claimed it will "switch off " the non-compliant enhancements but not completely remove them. The company also said it is planning downloadable patches and a service pack for those who do not want to modify their software.
