NEWS Sun Microsystems is in the process of drafting more open Java licenses which could lead to the opening of the source code. Alan Baratz, president of Sun's Java software division, fuelled speculation about the move when he said there are some "interesting advantages to the open source model". He claimed a fully open source initiative was "too big a step" as it could hurt compatibility. But he said licensing agreements will be more flexible.
