NEWS Jaguar has commissioned an £8m Unix system from HP in a bid to streamline operations at its Coventry-based car production plant, from design through to customer service. The car maker will incorporate the workstation and server system into a custom made software suite called C3P which has been designed especially for its design and production processes. C3P is based on CAD software but extends to other functions such as production and testing. The whole system is likely to generate significant cost savings, according to Jaguar. This is not the first HP system commissioned by Jaguar. According to the company, over 50 per cent of its internal IT systems are already procured from the systems vendor. John Knight-Gregson, C3P deployment manager, said "HP has been a preferred supplier for some time because it's very customer-focused, which is a priority for Jaguar." C3P is also used across production, engineering and design systems at Jaguar's parent company, Ford.
