Sun links Solaris to PalmPilot

By Suzanna Kerridge, 3 February 1999 15:40

NEWS Sun Solaris users could soon be able to upload data from PalmPilots to their desktops using Palm Computing's Hot Sync technology. Sun Microsystems announced late yesterday it has licensed the technology that will enable it to develop Java applets for synchronisation between PDAs (personal digital assistants) and Ultra Sparc workstations. The Calender Manager and Desktop Mail features within Sun Solaris will be able to exchange data with PalmPilot applications such as Address Book, Date Book, Memo Pad and PalmMail. Sun claims it has not ruled out developing Java applications to connect to any Java-enabled device such as Sun's JavaStation.
