BP Amoco get UPS protection

NEWS BP Amoco has chosen Berkshire-based reseller, UPS Systems to supply power protection hardware for its North Sea gas installations. Under the £50,000 deal, UPS will provide the oil giant's exploration division with two PK Electronics US9001 parallel redundant units - each of which includes 18 1kVA power modules that can be hot-swapped in the event of failure. A spokesman for UPS said: "BP looked at several suppliers, but we stood out with a different product - the parallel set up is far more flexible." BP Amoco said it hopes the move will ensure constant telecoms connection with its eight rigs in the North Sea central area, which provide 20 per cent of the UK's gas supply.
