Cisco builds on voice plans with GeoTel deal

NEWS Cisco Systems today announced the purchase of GeoTel Communications through a share exchange valued at almost $2bn. US company, GeoTel, provides software solutions for call centre and telecoms applications. Cisco is hoping the deal will underline its commitment to what it calls 'new world' technology, where telecoms systems will be used to transmit audio, video and written information simultaneously. Cisco is attempting to pioneer voice communication over the Internet. Cisco is the world's largest IT networking manufacturer and had a turnover of $8.46bn last year.
