Companies must commit to ecommerce warns Forrester

NEWS European ecommerce projects are being slowed down by the cautious approach many commercial organisations are taking towards online business. According to the latest report from Forrester Research, most European firms are taking a measured approach with spending and staffing being ramped up over the next several years. But Andrew Parker, senior analyst European corporate technologies at Forrester, claimed that "measured progress is the enemy of ecommerce success". Parker said the gradual approach to ecommerce will leave companies lagging behind once the boom begins. He said IT and business leaders within the company must set up the strategy together and create a formal ecommerce management group. If corporate management takes the lead in the strategy then the efforts will be hampered by inadequate plans, insufficient spending and staffing commitments that fail to account for skills shortages, warned Parker.
