IBM cashes in with Siemens' chips

NEWS IBM is joining forces with Siemens to strengthen its high-tech manufacturing presence in Europe. The partnership, worth FF3bn (E457m), will see IBM team up with Siemens subsidiary, Infineon Technologies, on a newly designed factory focusing on the production of logic circuits. The deal also means re-deployment or early retirement for 810 employees, as well as the revamp of IBM's memory chip factory at Corbeil-Essonnes, near Paris. According to company sources, the link with a European partner is essential to keep IBM competitive on a global scale.
