NEWS Microsoft has joined Internet2 - a coalition of suppliers and US research labs developing new Web technologies on a university network. The software giant's research arm will allow the Internet2 coalition to share its expertise on IP (Internet Protocol) multicasting and IP v6. It will also donate over $1m in products and services. Although Internet2 has high commercial value as a hotbed of cutting edge research and testing facilities, Microsoft's commercial divisions will not be allowed to access it. The Internet2 coalition already has over 15 corporate partners, including Alcatel, Deutsche Telecom and Nortel.
