NEWS Vodafone has been given the go ahead to build its £120m headquarters north of Newbury, Berkshire - despite the fact that it is located a 'green belt' conservation area. The planned building will staff 3,400 people and will replace the 57 distributed Vodafone offices that currently exist in the area. The UK mobile phone company faced serious opposition on the grounds that any development on the green belt is a contravention of government policy. But council officials voted in favour of the plans after Vodafone offered £10m for "green transport" including a park and ride scheme and a computerised car-sharing scheme.
