NEWS Hewlett-Packard (HP) is investing $500m in a three-way deal with Qwest Communications and SAP, to offer ERP (enterprise resource planning) software online. Qwest will set up seven CyberCentres running SAP R/3 software on HP computers. Bill Russell, chief operating officer at HP, claimed the move will boost the company's presence in the ecommerce market. In return for providing $500m worth of services and products, HP will be awarded a share in the CyberCentre profits. Lew Wilks, president of Internet and multimedia markets at Qwest, said the move marks the company's first foray into the application service provider market. Wilks said the company will offer the service within the next 60 days, operating from three hosting facilities in the US. A fourth will be built by the end of the year.
