NEWS Express Dairies plans to invest £5m into call centre and handheld computer technology to support a delivery direct service. The UK's doorstep milk delivery service is extending the range of available products to include general groceries. Express Dairies claims that customers will be able to phone orders up to 10pm at night and order their groceries for delivery the following morning - significantly quicker than the service currently offered by most home direct shopping services. At a conference, Neil Davidson, CEO of Express Dairies, said: "This investment will also enable us to build a much improved database from which we intend to develop targeted marketing of an extended product range, focused particularly on branded, bulky grocery and household products." The trials will begin this summer and will be extended across the country over the next year if the service proves successful.
