RosettaNet opts for XML

NEWS RosettaNet, an industry consortium dedicated to finding a common language for electronic commerce, is to base its efforts on XML (eXtensible Markup Language). The group, which includes Compaq, Intel, IBM, Hewlett-Packard and American Express, will announce its XML-based eConcert project later today, according to US reports. eConcert is expected to use XML to define IT trading terms such as 'price', 'shipping' and 'modem'. Rosetta will now look to hardware manufacturers to implement the shared specification in their products.
