Workers embrace the intranet

NEWS Company employees are flocking in their thousands onto their corporate intranets, creating huge business opportunities for IT vendors and other companies, according to software firm, Verity. In a video interview with Silicon.com, Verity MD, Mark Neil claimed workers are increasingly using company intranets alongside Internet portals as their main sources of information. But Neil doesn't believe intranets will eventually replace the Internet portal. Indeed, he claimed intranets offer a promising market for portal companies such as Lycos, AOL and MSN, which may look to link into corporate intranets to offer a first port of call on the wider Web. Neil added that corporates themselves may be able to make money out of their intranets by selling advertising space to vendors.
