Budgens to trial intranet shopping service

NEWS UK grocery chain, Budgens, will next week launch a trial of its intranet shopping service in Birmingham. Employees at an unnamed company will be given the chance to order their shopping while at work and have it delivered to their home during the evening. The company is planning to build specialist warehouses in Harlow, Runcorn and Birmingham to support the service and keep it independent from its chain of high-street stores. A Budgens spokeswoman said the service could be personalised for each individual customer. Budgens this week reported record pre-tax profits of £12.6m, up from £10.5m on last year.
