NEWS PowerGen is attempting to increase the amount of online business it does with its customers by expanding the functionality of its Web site, and in the process hopes to cut operating costs. Customers can now use the site to switch to PowerGen for gas and electricity, enter meter readings and query bills. Customers can't currently use the site to pay bills, but that is likely to happen in the near future, according to a company spokesman. A £30 discount is being offered to customers who use the Web site to switch to PowerGen. "It's cheaper for PowerGen to win a customer over the Internet than to manage a call centre, so we can pass some of the savings on to the customer," explained the spokesman.
