IBM launches instant messaging product

NEWS IBM joined the race to provide instant messaging today as it unveiled software which enables users to conduct real-time online business meetings. The software - an update to IBM's Lotus Sametime program - allows users to jointly view presentations, design slides and charts. Users can also use the software with Lotus Notes and Domino. John Patrick, vice president of Internet technology at IBM, denied that instant messaging could only be used for "chit-chatting after school" and claimed the software was for "business people co-ordinating projects."
