Cunningham leaps into Action

NEWS Cabinet Office minister, Jack Cunningham, has unveiled his Action Plan to propel the UK government into the 21st century. The Modernising Government programme lists 62 commitments to be carried out in its first two years. The program started with the launch of a white paper in March, and Whitehall departments will start providing internal progress reports before the end of this year. Details include trialling a Web portal which links to all the government's public sites, setting up email-based enquiries and establishing a phoneline service to local authority information. The next step is to modernise the Civil Service. A report on how government plans to do this is in the pipeline.
