Isotrak goes it alone

NEWS Isotrak, the high-tech division of NFC (National Freight Corporation), is to break away from its parent company following a management buyout. The company has developed a transport management system for HFC, which enables drivers to share information with their transport control centre via a radio modem. A global positioning system pinpoints the location of the fleet, and drivers can provide information via handheld computers in their cab. The management team, led by MD, Jonathan Higham, has acquired 10 per cent of the company, with NFC retaining a 19.9 per cent interest. The remaining majority stake has been bought by UK venture capitalist, 3i. Isotrak claims its transport system can improve customer service and supply chain management efficiency by reducing road transport costs. The company is targeting freight firms across the UK and Europe with its technology.
