NEWS The worldwide demand for supply chain applications in vertical markets will hold steady at 12 per cent growth until 2003, according to IDC. Demand in sectors like healthcare, financial services and engineering and construction put revenues for 1998 at $15.7bn; sales of supply chain packages are expected to be $17.6bn in 1999. Packaged healthcare applications are the most sought-after, driven by fierce competition in the sector and the need to cut costs with more efficient IT. Unix-based systems were the most popular in 1998, but IDC expects 32-bit Windows systems to take the greatest market share by 2003.
