Ukraine receives Western aid to ensure nuclear Y2K-compliance

NEWS The Ukraine's nuclear reactors are being checked for millennium compliance under a project financed by Western governments. The plants are widely considered to be Y2K-compliant, but concerns remain that safety measures may be compromised to keep the reactors up and running through the winter. More than fifty per cent of electricity in the Ukraine is generated by nuclear power. The project is expected to reassure Western countries that the millennium will not cause another Chernobyl-style accident, as the Ukraine could suffer economically merely from the expectation of an accident or power outage.
