Northern Electric told to sort out billing systems

By Suzanna Kerridge, 1 September 1999 15:10

NEWS Northern Electric and Northern Electric and Gas Limited (NE&G) have been criticised by Ofgem over their customer billing systems. The gas and electricity regulator warned the two companies that action will be taken unless billing operations are improved within 28 days. Ofgem said steps must be taken to make the systems send out quarterly or monthly bills, as recently customers have been billed on an ad hoc basis. Until the systems are fixed, NE&G has been banned from marketing gas to customers. The sanctions were imposed after the number of customers complaints between January and July was registered as four-times higher than the next worse supplier.
