Early results from European Internet usage survey

NEWS Forty-one per cent of Europeans access the Internet from home, compared to only 36 per cent at work, according to a survey from Forrester Research. The findings, not due to be released until November, will encourage online retailers in consumer markets, but the report also shows comparatively few are making purchases on the Web. The survey of 17,000 people in the UK, France, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands shows email to be the most popular activity, with over 88 per cent of Dutch users and 83 per cent of British users sending messages electronically. Germans are the biggest online spenders with almost 15 per cent making purchases - compared to just 8 per cent of the French.
