Teleworkers to fill call centre labour gap

NEWS UK call centre managers will employ more teleworkers to remedy current staff shortage problems, according to the latest industry research. The survey of 117 call centre managers - carried out by the Institute for Employment Studies (IES), the Telework, Telecottage and Telecentre Association (TCA) and comms technology company, Mitel - showed that 42 per cent plan to employ teleworkers in the near future. Over half the respondents cited recruitment difficulties while 46 per cent claimed absenteeism create problems for the call centre industry. Teleworkers possess the right skills, education and experience, to fill the labour gap, according to Ursula Huws, associate fellow at the IES.
