Car firms to collaborate on materials system

By Dominic Maher, 6 October 1999 17:38

NEWS A group of leading car manufacturers has teamed up to develop an international electronic materials data system (IMDS), with EDS providing the technology. Audi, BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Porsche, Opel, Volvo and VW will share the Internet-based system with their partners. They'll use it to view information about materials used in cars manufacturing, which are supplied by third parties. A three-month pilot phase will take place from the end of the year involving 30 suppliers. The full version is expected to go live in March 2000.
