Action 2000 issues Y2K survival guide

NEWS In an effort to stem public panic, the government's Y2K watchdog, Action 2000, is to publish a booklet offering practical advice on what to do over the New Year period. The 24-page survival manual will land on the doorsteps of all 26 million UK households during the first two weeks of November. The booklet contains information on what to do in the case of an emergency and how Britain's major utilities and public service providers - such as gas, electricity and telecommunications - have been preparing for the date change. Hotline numbers to these organisations are also listed. An Action 2000 spokeswoman said the document is a follow-up to the 'Fact or Fiction' leaflet distributed in June. "This ones offers a more in-depth look and further details on what to expect and who to call if you need help," she explained.
