Asda site sniffs out online bargains

By Dominic Maher, 19 October 1999 15:55

NEWS UK supermarket Asda has launched its first Internet shopping service, branded as 'Captain Value Mad'. The site offers a search facility which compares Asda prices with those of its online competitors. The company is focusing primarily on non-perishable items such as books, videos, software and travel services. Asda also plans to offer a 'Wow of the week' - the top bargain found by its search engine in the last seven days, regardless of whether it's on its own site or not. Asda was recently taken over by US giant, Wal-Mart, which already has a home delivery service for groceries in the Croydon and Watford areas. For more details, see http://www.valuemad.com .
