Java still not making the corporate grade

NEWS The popularity of Java among developers of corporate applications has yet to surpass their love of Visual Basic or C++, according to the latest report from Zona Research. The study of 150 developers showed that 35 per cent prefer Visual Basic for writing business software, while 20 per cent picked C and C++. Java ranked only third, named by only nine per cent of programmers. Martin Marshall, analyst at Zona Research said the study proves that Java is not yet mature. He claimed most companies already have code written in Visual Basic and are unwilling to throw it away to rewrite in Java. Respondents said the speed of Java on desktop applications is still too slow and there are problems with its ability to scale to keep up with business growth.
