NEWS Red Hat has formed an organisation to monitor, promote and develop Open Source software in a range of scientific and educational projects. The Red Hat Centre for Open Source (RHCOS) will be funded by an $8m investment from Red Hat's chief technology officer, Marc Ewing and co-founder Bob Young, and Frank Batten, CEO at Landmark Communications. The board boasts an array of leading IT professionals including John Seely Brown, chief scientist of Xerox and John Gilmore, entrepreneur and architect of the Sun workstation.
