BT grants monthly rates for intranet service

NEWS BT's Intranet Services Division this week launched its first suit of rentable Web-based applications, offering users Lotus QuickPlace on a subscription basis. QuickPlace is used to create shared workspaces on the Web, allowing businesses and organisations to share and manage information through a Web browser. BT hopes its QuickPlace service will attract users wanting instant access to applications without the delay and cost of building technical infrastructure. Alan Baldwin, product manager for BT Intranet, said in a statement: "The demand for hosted services is driven more and more by a need for applications to address immediate business challenges." The service costs £5 per user, per month.
