NEWS The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) is to use technology donated by a number of high-tech firms and independent software developers to build open-source Extensible Markup Language (XML) tools. The xml.apache.org project, which launches today, will begin by incorporating XML parsers from IBM and Sun and fuse them into one product. The project will also make use of Lotus's Extensible StyleSheet Language (XSL) - a technology used to create and link documents based on XML, HTML and other Web document formats. Microsoft, which is independently developing its own XML programme, has not joined the effort but said it supports open industry standards. The ASF is a non-profit making organisation committed to building free Web technology. For more information see http://xml.apache.org
