Shell gets intranet in Ireland

NEWS Shell Ireland has unveiled an intranet system which allows staff to access retail sales information from across the country. SilverStream co-developed the intranet application with Teamsoft, which then rolled-out the project in four weeks on the company's retail network, called Retnet. The intranet connects 70 outlets across Ireland, with a further development of 234 sites planned across Northern Ireland. Retnet automatically updates Shell's Oracle database with daily retail figures, to allow Shell to check sales performance across the country. The intranet is based on thin-client architecture, and will also transmit company news to all the sites from a central server located in Dublin.
