NEWS Spending on IT in the manufacturing industry is expected to rise to £3.59bn in UK over the next year, according to a report published today by research company, Benchmark. The survey was based on interviews with over 1000 IT decision makers in the country's manufacturing sector. Spending has markedly increased on previous years where it has grown from £3.12bn in 1997 to £3.36bn in 1998. It's expected that ebusiness will be a key focus for spending over the next year. In another report also published today, IDC research company has predicted that the worldwide applications for manufacturing market will top $6.30bn in 1999. Director of supply chain research at IDC said this figure could grow to around $10.5bn by 2003 giving a growth rate of around 14 percent. This growth rate dwarfs those experienced throughout the mid-1990s until as late as 1997.
