NEWS There are now more than 41 million groupware users in Europe, according to the latest report from IDC. The research house's European Groupware Factbook examines how the European groupware market is evolving, and the latest findings indicate that companies are increasingly looking to deploy collaborative processes, such as information sharing and e-conferencing. The IDC report discovered that 40 per cent of European organisations have spent more in 1999 on groupware, than they did in 1998. According to the IDC, in 1998, the average European business spent $89,000 on groupware and $48,000 on messaging software. Discrepancies between European countries and their deployment of groupware technology are rife. Sweden is blazing the trail, with 60 per cent of knowledge workers having access to groupware, while less than 20 per cent of French and Germans have the same facilities. In UK, the figure stands at 25 per cent. More details can be found from the European Groupware Factbook - available at no charge on the IDC Web site (http://www.idc.com ).
