One in ten business trips to be dropped for Web-conferencing

NEWS One in ten business trips could be replaced by Web-based conferencing, according to research house, IDC. The study - sponsored by groupware firm, Placeware - found that over half of the respondents believe the Internet will let them reduce their reliance on business travel. The research is based on interviews conducted with 200 business travellers in the US, many of whom are frustrated by flight delays, crowds and uncomfortable airline seating. IDC predicted that Web conferencing - which lets users share slides and presentations with the aid of a phone call and Web browser - would not face the same bandwidth problems that have plagued video conferencing.
