Stoke-on-Trent youngsters go online for free

NEWS All school children in Stoke-on-Trent are to get a free email address and Internet access as part of the city's community intranet project. All schools will link computers into the intranet project which will provide each pupil with free Internet access and a portal featuring educational and information resources linked to the curriculum. This portal will also ensure that all unsuitable sites are unavailable to users on the intranet. The system has already been piloted and pupils found it easy to navigate and genuinely useful for project research and general education, according to Peter Taylor, head teacher at participating, St Peter's High School.
