Inprise and Sun plan Linux platform for Java

NEWS Inprise and Sun Microsystems will release a version of the Java 2 platform for Linux by early next year. The announcement is scheduled for next week, with both companies keen to demonstrate their support for the open source operating system. Inprise announced its JBuilder for Solaris product this week, and hinted that a Linux version would not be far behind. At present, there is no version of Java2 that works on Linux. The move may help convince corporates that Linux is acceptable in the enterprise.
