SAP unveils Red Hat-certified R/3 release

NEWS ERP giant, SAP, has released a Red Hat-certified version of its R/3 software to run on Linux. The version has shipped to over 100 SAP customers, a number that SAP says clearly demonstrates demand for Linux-powered Internet business software. SAP set up Red Hat labs in Waldorf, Germany, six months ago, with the intention of porting R/3 to Linux. Colin Tenwick, managing director of Red Hat Europe, said: "This is an enormous endorsement of Linux in the enterprise." He added that Oracle would bring out a database optimised for Linux within the next month.
