US utility buys Tadpole-Cartesia GIS

NEWS US electricity and gas utility, Niagara Mohawk, has purchased a Tadpole-Cartesia geographic information system (GIS) for its field engineers. Niagara Mohawk's engineers will use the Conic GIS software with portable computers to collect customer data in the field. The customer geographic data is then uploaded directly from the field to Niagara Mohawk's central GIS database. Niagara Mohawk covers just over two million customers across 24,000 square miles in New York state. The company says an accurate GIS database will mean better service for customers and faster reactions to power outages.
