NEWS An unproven security risk in Amazon.com's databases has come under the spotlight of the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The risk is entirely hypothetical, according to security consultant Richard Smith, who spotted it. But the FTC has reportedly launched an informal investigation into the possibility that Amazon's subsidiary, Alexa, is combining personal data compiled from its Web-tracking service with Amazon customer accounts. Amazon insists there are no links between the databases.
