IT supports Brown's charity plan

NEWS The Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown has unveiled a package to boost the UK charity sector that will include exploration into the use of technology to link people, ideas and jobs in this sector. The measures include tax incentives and share schemes that will assist charity funding. Brown is also keen to explore the idea that new technologies - which could include Internet and intranet systems - could help to bring the voluntary sector closer to the groups that want to support them. One idea is to use the Web to link people to jobs in the voluntary sector. If this became reality, charities and individuals would be able to collaborate and network together on a Web-based framework. Further details will be announced over the next few months.
