Versant enJin wins France Telecom support

NEWS France Telecom has chosen to place Versant's object database management system (ODBMS), enJin, at the heart of its future development plans. The telco intends to use it in upcoming projects including voice over IP applications, ebusiness micro-payments, the design of its UMTS network and real-time leased line management. France Telecom conducted a two-year study to discover the most appropriate technologies for its middle-tier infrastructure. Object modelling tools, application servers, Enterprise Java Beans and XML were all evaluated. The company found that traditional relational database management systems (RDBMS) could not deliver the performance levels required.
