Amazon.co.uk boasts £26m pre-Christmas sales

NEWS Internet bookseller, Amazon.co.uk, is taking on 500 extra staff in the UK and has reported sales of £26m for the three months leading up to Christmas. The company is claiming to have had one million customers over the course of 1999 and is predicting annual sales of £100m. Steve Frazier, who was appointed UK managing director of Amazon a month ago, said in a statement: "We have not reached break-even but we will be making money soon." The extra staff will be taken on over the next 12 months.
