Companies race to join online car alliance

NEWS The online car alliance announced this week by DaimlerChrysler, Ford and General Motors is already under siege by companies wanting to join in. German ERP firm, SAP, is reportedly angling to be DaimlerChrysler's IT supplier for the forum, according to the Wall Street Journal. SAP already has a long-standing partnership with the car manufacturer's global service division. As reported yesterday on Silicon.com, General Motors and Ford have already announced the contribution of their technology suppliers CommerceOne and Oracle respectively. The Web site will be a forum for car dealers to trade parts. French newspaper, la Tribune, reports that Fiat is keen to add its Fiat Uno vehicle to the stock, and there are widespread reports that Nissan and Renault are likely to follow suit.
