Scotland Yard transfers its case files onto an intranet

NEWS Scotland Yard has installed an intranet to support communications across its operations. It's deploying intranet software company Open Text's Livelink product to collect, index and provide online access to the Yard's 600,000 case files, which are currently filing nine miles of shelf space at its West London file repository. Access to these files had previously been limited to business hours and hindered by logistical factors. However, Open Text claims Livelink will now improve access through customised searches and constant online availability. Scotland Yard expects the system to save around $2.4m in administrative costs over the next five years.
