NEWS Netscape co-founder Marc Andreessen has joined the board of collab.net - a provider of collaborative services for open source software developers. Andreessen, who invented the Mosaic Web browser and was instrumental in opening the Netscape Navigator source code to developers, joins other leading lights on the collab.net board, including Brian Behlendorf, co-founder of the Apache software foundation. Andreessen said he has believed in the open source business model for a long time, and will be taking a hands-on role in steering collab.net's future. collab.Net's first service - sourceXchange - creates a collaborative marketplace for open source software development over the Internet. It also provides a variety of tools and services to help open source developers during the lifecycle management of software projects.
