Motorola and Qualcomm end legal battle

NEWS Wireless technology rivals, Motorola and Qualcomm, have called a halt to a three-year legal tussle which has included seven federal court hearings in the US. The two equipment suppliers yesterday announced a moratorium on court cases for the next three years. Each company will be free to market CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) chipsets in the future, without paying royalties, and the two suppliers will broaden their cross-licensing schemes. Motorola will, however, pay Qualcomm royalties for some CDMA subscriber products, which form the basis of much next-generation mobile technology.
